Enhanced Helicopter Vision Systems
This project investigates Enhanced Helicopter Vision Systems technologies to determine if they can improve the safety of flight and provide operational credit/benefit for rotorcraft operations. Research activities include:
- Displays: Examining Head-Worn Displays (HWD’s) and Helmet-Mounted Displays (HMD’s) symbology, information, and user interface (UI)
- Sensors: Characterizing multi-sensor (Infrared, Millimeter Wave, Light Imaging Detection Ranging (LIDAR) performance in a range of weather conditions
- Visual References: Examining the visual references a helicopter pilot needs to acquire both with and without advanced vision systems
